Atwater's Killer Bs

A writer for Downtown LA is shocked - shocked! - over "well-established hotel restaurants" (downtown's Marriott and Bonaventure's L.A. Prime) and Dodger Stadium, "of all places," earning less-than-appetizing Bs from LA's Department of Public Health.

Not exactly high Bs, either. All three scored 83% or less - with cockroaches (!) in April 2006 at Bonaventure, after three straight A ratings.

So how scores Atwater Village? Mostly As, a handful of Bs:
  • EL BUEN GUSTO - 3140 N GLENDALE BLVD - 81
  • EL CANONAZO MARKET - 3168 GLENDALE BLVD - 81
  • GIAMELA'S RESTAURANT - 3178 LOS FELIZ BLVD - 82
  • ROLLING PIN BAKERY - 3156 GLENDALE BLVD - 85
  • SUN HAI INN CHINESE - 3176 LOS FELIZ BLVD - 85
  • TACOS VILLA CORONA - 3185 GLENDALE BLVD - 86
  • THAI TASTE RESTAURANT - 2328 FLETCHER DR - 84
  • THE COFFEE TABLE - 2930 ROWENA AVE - 82
  • THE ROOST - 3100 LOS FELIZ BLVD - 86
  • LOS FELIZ DELI (CHEVRON) - 3050 LOS FELIZ BLVD - 86
Eh,who wants to eat at a gas station anyway. Only one at C or below:
  • MANILA ORIENTAL MARKET - 3323 GLENDALE BLVD - 78
Being new to this whole rating system, I have friends here who advise never go below A. But do Bs keep others away? Are they points of no return? Or are they, like school grades at least, better than average?

some of my favorite places are B's.

On this list I hit the Roost & Coffee Table.

Off the subject of grades. . .have you tried LA Bread across from the Roost? Holy crap. So good.

Ok the whole grading system is wacked! who gives a hoot what grade a place gets if it has good food and it's got a C whohooo. Grow up grade snobs, you ingest more negative things walking around the street than you will eating food which IS cooked in a A,B,C,D whatever joint.

Everyone raves about LA Bread on Los Feliz Blvd. Even saw it somewhere on Food Network. Or that Eye on LA show. I need to stroll over and check it out.

i'll do b's, but no on the c's. And who cares if The Roost has a B--it's mainly a bar, right?

My pops (who works in urban pest control for the LAUSD) told me once that something like the water not being hot enough in the employee restroom the very day of the inspection can be enough to bump down a restaurant to a B. Of course, he also said some other disgusting stuff that I will not type here because even in typing it, it freaks me out.

I've eaten many a cookie from the Rollin Pin and I am still here. I have also drank like a fish at the Roost and...what was I gonna say?
