BIKE PATH ACCESS AND EARTHQUAKE-PROOFING might be nice. But how about the ability for pedestrians to cross the bridge without wading through inches of garbage and broken glass? Surely the bridge improvement budget will afford a broom.

Yeah and make both sides passable. On one side, you've got about a foot of space on the sidewalk which gives you NO buffer room from the always-speeding cars. The bridges sure are perty, but they didn't design them for walking.pro
Even odder, than, that they built benches up and down both "sidewalks"... - AVN
