Just in Case Someone Walks in LA

Walkable Neighborhoods
FROM THE BEST LIST of Los Angeles maps ever blogged comes this nugget about Atwater Village:
"Using a street file provided by ESRI, the Thomas Guide, and the map of barrier land uses... Several areas identified in the analysis coincide with neighborhoods considered walkable: Atwater Village, Boyle Heights, and West Hollywood."
Thanks to LA City Nerd (bookmarked!) for the tip to UCLA's Walkable Neighborhoods Map (PDF).

I walk through the hood every week -- several times a week -- and it's great to see the same folks, grab the same burritos and give life to the sidewalks. The more people walk in the neighborhood, the safer and more neighborhoody it becomes.

Saturday, I walked around, ran into a neighbor and her son on Glendale; neighbor introduced me to store owner; kept walking and met two more neighbors taking down a fenche and exchanged numbers.

Plus, you leave the frustration of driving, improve the environment and your health, save money and get to see houses and lifes that you normally speed by.

Get out and walk, people!
