Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti hops out of an unkilled electric car and chats up Atwater Village lawn-sitters during Tuesday's National Night Out. Over his left shoulder is the police officer who tricked me into joining the LAPD's eight-week Community Police Academy. What can I say. I'm a sucker for 90-second pitches from armed orators.
