Americana's Late Night Fireworks Not Just for Glendale

ATWATER VILLAGE at 11:15pm tonight got an earful of the "private" fireworks show at the Americana at Brand shopping center, 2 miles away in Glendale.

The neighborhood letter promised "fireworks and musical performances staged between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m." It seems the staging has slipped a couple of hours. And so close to this weekend's grand opening!

In their Disneyfication of the California shopping experience, I hope the Americana people soon realize that even Disneyland tries to wrap up the exploding light shows by 10:00pm.

WOW the owners of Americana have alot to learn about being a good neighbor. Setting off a 20 min show of fireworks at 11:15pm, waking up kids, barking dogs, ect in the middle of the night. Breaking noise laws and basicallly pissing everyone off for a 10 mile radius is not what people want. They have shown a complete disregard for the very people that they want to come and shop at their stores. This developer has crossed the line one more time. He stole the land that Americana was built on for the mere price of $1 from the city of Glendale, he has broken promise after promise with other businesses in the area purposely hurting the motel next door to the point of a law suit and now its ok to break noise laws. I guess I will just have to be as kind to Americana as it has been to its neighbors, I certainly won't be shopping there.

...not to mention the energy drain. Have you seen those huge electrified Americana signs? And some sort of giant electric pink barber pole thing? And having all the evening lights on in the daytime during construction? In today's "save-energy-because-we're- going-to-hell-in-a-handbag-otherwise" environmental climate? What was Glendale thinking by allowing this? I'll be staying far away from that place.

oh that's what it was... i heard the barrage of little booms in the distance and thought it was another gang shoot-out.

I agree on all counts. We have two small kids and grabbed them because we thought there was some major gang gun battle going on. Called 911 - the police helicopter and cars rolled very soon afterward. The police had a pretty rapid response but it was for nothing.

We did not receive any letters to be forewarned and that is unacceptable. Even with a letter shooting off fireworks at that time is illegal and was a very poor decision. I feel the Americana owes their neighbors and the police a pretty major apology and donate to some police fund to start to make up for it.

And don't get me started on the energy drain. You think they included in green elements during construction?

I agree with everyone's comments here about how incredibly rude and disruptive the Americana's fireworks were. I too thought TRS were going ballistic on May Day.
As much as I'd like to say that I won't ever patronize them, I will more realistically say that I will think twice before going there, and when I do, I can at least ride my bike there to do my tiny part to off-set the outrageous display of electricity sucking.

I have to admit, I instinctively ducked when the first set of fireworks popped. In my defense, there had been helicopters circling for a while last night leading up to the show.

Let them know it's NOT cool!

I am SO glad to see this blog and all these comments! I have been outraged since this happened last night. We live a mere 2 blocks from the Americana and have 18 month old twins. At 11:15 PM I began to hear what I believed was gunfire on our street. I was terrified! I thought there was a gang fight in our street and immediately called 911. The circuits were busy and when I finally got through the dispatcher didn't even wait for me to say anything. She heard the "gunfire" in the background and blurted out, "It's the Americana fireworks. Call the city if you want to complain." YOU BET YOUR BIPPY I want to complain, and I did.

My twins were terrified and were wailing. I could not get them resettled until after 2AM.

It is unconscionable that our city officials allowed this! Fireworks. 11:15PM. A weekenight. How much of a genius do you have to be to realize that this is a completely unacceptable thing to allow! But you know what? It was the Americana's "VIP" grand opening - so guess who was there? The very same screwed up city officials who allowed this to happen in the first place!

I wrote a letter to our city council members, the mayor and the chief of police. It seems that the city of Glendale has it's hand so far up the Americana's tush that it no longer concerns itself with the wellbeing of it's citizens - you can bet I will remember how little regard the city officials showed for all of us when election time rolls around again!

While I was at the Americana today I snapped a picture of the concierge desk's customer service script regarding the late-night fireworks.

It is May 8th 2009 11:00 PM. I have just come in from trying to calm down my dog, since she is scare of fireworks. Is this firework show at the Americana going to happen every
Friday night Because, I can't have my dog go nuts every Friday night. I thought it was bad enough twice a year with the Rose Bowl Fireworks schedule. Now I have to worry about this too! Please have some mercy on your neighbors Americana.

Joyce, it was Dodger Stadium tonight (5/09). I think they do it a few times a year there.

Thanks AVN I glad to know that it is only going to be a few times a year. although I did have the same problem last week. I don't know if that was also Dodger Stadium or not. But like I said it's good to know, thanks
