Video of Police Chase in Atwater Village: March 30
THIS INTREPID videographer captures a police chase in Atwater Village, as it passes the post office at Glendale Blvd. and La Clede Ave. on March 30. Not sure whom they're chasing, other than someone who saw fit to jump off a motorcycle and try to escape on foot.

Homeless Getting Comfortable at Hyperion Bridge
YOU NOTICE IT when you're driving south along Glendale Blvd., just before crossing under the Hyperion Bridge toward Silver Lake. It's a homely little camp, blankets, shopping cart, all the amenities of street life spread out at the base of the pedestrian staircase. At least one or 2 homeless men have occupied this shady slice of Atwater Village, adjacent to a north I-5 on-ramp, for the last couple of weeks.
Two years ago this spot had become a trash heap. The city eventually came along and bagged it. Back then, no one lived there. So now, what will the city do? And how long will they wait to do it?

These Are (Most of) the People in Your Neighborhood
ONE OF THE highlights of our neighborhood tree lighting last week was the big-screen premiere of Atwater Village's new anthem and video, created by a group of talented neighbors including Seth Freeman and Tom Bishel. They had contacted me for permission to use my Flickr photos (The Roost, Tam O'Shanter, the chapel) in the video, so keep an eye out for them. And here are the lyrics (my fave: "you can sing and dance or get a short term loan") to your new neighborhood anthem: "Atwater Village" |

Sleep-jogging Through Atwater Village
NO IDEA IF THIS 90-second spot was commissioned by Adidas, but there are plenty of neighborhood landmarks. The description from YouTube:"Logline: When a young jogger falls asleep, and begins dreaming about jogging around her Atwater Village Neighborhood at night in her Adidas Tennis Shoes." |

Atwater Village Fish & Game Club
NOTWITHSTANDING THE HEALTH RISKS and legality of fishing in the Los Angeles River, watch this 66-second video to learn how to catch (and release, hopefully) a nice five-pounder. And here's a half minute of the much bigger one that got away: |

Calling All Videographers to Glassell Park!
EVEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, some neighborhoods could use a little more sunshine. Watch this six-minute video to find out how the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council tried to keep a May 15 meeting in the dark - possibly in violation of state law. Scariest quote, both grammatically and in high-falutin' un-American guilty-till-proven-innocent style, from GPNC Chair "Bradley" at the 5:00 mark: "My concern is that if you really had a concern with regard to legalities, as a respect, you would just cut it off automatically until you find out for sure what you can or can't do. But you haven't even done it. You have just continued to tape." As will everyone else, sir, June 5, 7:00pm, and June 19, 7:00pm, at the Glassell Park Community Center, 3750 Verdugo Road.

'We're Here at the Beautiful Goddam LA River'
RUN-AND-GUN TV HOST Huell Howser gets cleverly spoofed in this six-minute video shot along the LA River in Atwater Village or, as the puppet calls it, "downtown Los Feliz, which means of course The Feliz in Spanish." At the 5:00 mark, reporting from the historic Red Car train mural: "That's a beautiful mural depicting a possible solution to LA's horrendous traffic problem. I don't know about you, but if there's anything that would make me leave this God-forsaken hell hole, it's the traffic." Via LA Observed. |
