Old Fabrics Store: Another 'Herbal' Business?

NEIGHBORS HAVE been investigating the old Thousand Fabrics location at 3229 Glendale Blvd., and report on the AVNC forum: "I talked to one of the day labor working at the building a few days ago and asked what is going on. He told me that the building is being divided into two retail/commercial spaces. In broken English he also said that he believed one side has already been leased to some type of apothecary/herbal medicine business." For those of you counting at home, this could turn out to be the sixth medical marijuana dispensary along this 3-block stretch of Atwater Village. Here are photos, addresses and names of the other 5.

Well, at least new green businesses are booming in our little village.

Another Pharmacy!
Surely something can be done to stop these pharmacies opening. Is Atwater Village just going to turn into Amsterdam! 1 or 2 places seems ok, but 6!?

We need a nice food market like Fresh and Easy selling fresh greens, not pharmacy's selling them!

before we all get worked up let's keep in mind that this is only a SPECULATION

What if Fresh & Easy also had a pharmacy? Also, please note there is already one market on the street. Sure, it caters primarily to the Latino community, but that's no reason to not drop in.

I can't believe there are five, possibly six, pharmacies in this area. I just finished taking photos of Glendale Blvd. for my LA photoblog, thesightsthesounds.blogspot.com, and the only one of these places that I noticed was AACC. But I've learned that every part of LA is crawling with this places, so it's not just Atwater. My favorite pharmacy (not that I partake) is the Liberty Bell Temple (www.libertybelltemple.com) which is right behind the Burrito King on Hyperion. There's got to be some great synergy going on between those two places.

I haven't been too concerned and at first thought people were overreacting. But I just clicked on the link FAV posted with the locations and put 2 and 2 together that 4 of them are on the same block (around the corner from my house, i might add). Seems like overkill for sure. Are they actually competitors? That seems far-fetched.
