WITH AN EXTRA touch of snark, the NBC Los Angeles Around Town blog-like thing reports about Atwater Village's tree lighting tonight:
Atwater Village Lights Tree, Ups 'Village-y' Quotient: "Atwater Village starts its seasonal festivities with a tree lighting, on Thursday, December 4, at 6:30PM... "Let's not be jealous of Atwater Village. Sure, the neighborhood is plunk in the middle of the sprawling metropolis, and yet they still have 'Village' in their name. And it truly seems like a tight-knit, let's-celebrate-the-good-stuff kind of community, so calling itself a village does not seem like a stretch... "Okay, we're jealous."

It's a redwood, not a fir. Come on, nbc...sheesh. Oh, and village leaders, if you could ever consider the fact that a lot more people would like to attend, only they have to work all over the city until 6-ish at least. Would a 7p start really be that bad for these events?
Good point, Miles. I've always wondered why such an early start on neighborhood events. I mean, the Glendale Blvd. trick-or-treat is like 4:30 in the afternoon! Is it all nannies?
I agree. I wanted to see it this year, but no way I can be home by 6:30.
Luckily they had at least 60-90 minutes of intros and pageantry. Update (and photos!) posting soon.
Sadly when I shuffled home around 8, it was lit and the commotion was dying down. All the same, good for our little neighborhood and good for the organizers who have been doing it for so long (Sandra, I'm looking at you!)!
