Bigger Menace: Screeching Tires or Skateboarders?

New TriangleTHE NEW $110,000 triangle at Dover, Glenfeliz and Valleybrink is designed to prevent vehicles from doing dangerous donuts in the middle of this 5-way residential intersection. Still under construction, the new triangular curb is already attracting another annoyance, according to an AVNC forum post: skateboarders.

Just wait till summer, when who knows whatall could happen here in the neighborhood's tiniest pocket park. Picnickers? Lemonade stands? Eric Garcetti for Governor rallies? Stay tuned.

  1. My question is: will it really prevent the donuts? You can still see the donut tire marks in the in intersection, with a comfortable margin from the new round-edged triangle. Hmmm....

  2. The triangle will prevent donuts because a car won't be able to gather up the speed to do a proper donut while avoiding the triangle. The city did extensive research on this corner, and they're confident that this is a safe and cost-effective and life-saving project.

  5. RE: skateboarders. These are our neighborhood kids playing outside. Why is that a problem?

RE: Doughnuts. The original design went into the intersection about 3 feet deeper. Don't know how it got shorter. Still, the intersection will be safer I think.

RE: The gap. It's actually for drainage, but I like the bike idea!
