ONE OF MY favorite reads, the Freakonomics Blog at the New York Times, reveals some answers to its quiz about transportation and urbanization in Los Angeles. Among the revelations:
- LA freeway system ranks second in the nation (after New York) in lane mileage
- But LA ranks "dead last" in freeway lane miles per resident
- Only about three-fifths of the lane mileage envisioned in LA's 1959 master plan was ever completed

15 (or so) of that unrealized masterplan freeway mileage would have come from continuing the 2 Freeway south to break right across Silver Lake where it would take over Santa Monica Boulevard all the way to the sea.
ReplyDeleteGod bless whoever said hell no to that.
